Indigo Flowers Sketch--Suggestions?

Cross-posted from my blog.
First of all, thank you my friends for all the wonderful comments on my progress, I feel greatly encouraged. Marnie, thanks for the detailed instructions on doing a great edging; I have that book but did not pay much attention ;-)! Phoenix and Hattie, thank you for your suggestions (I love beads, too).
I suddenly remembered that I haven't done a pen-and-ink sketch for Indigo Flowers Vest yet. How can a design be a design without a line sketch? So here it is: a one minute sketch.

You see, I have finished the front pieces, but haven't started the back yet. Once again I face a dilemma. This time it's about the ratio between lace and solid Stockinette stitches.

As typed on the sketch, the dark hatches represent Calmer and the wavy lines Zephyr.

Which one do you like ;-)?

I love the angled version. It's more dynamic!

I'm inclined to go for the straight (left) version, for two reasons:
1. I like it
2. I wonder if the angle will cause gauge problems. Perhaps it won't but you might find that going from the soft open lace to the solid calmer, may cause the piece to pull in. A swatch would confirm that, I guess.

Interesting. I'd be inclined to go with the diagonal. It's interesting, and I think there would be less concern about structural integrity. I would be concerned that a field of lace like that might pull out of shape if it were too wide a swath. My guess is that only trial and error will bring you the answer. Go with your bliss and revise your plan of attack if things don't seem to work the way you want them to. Either way you'll have a lovely garment!

My wishy-washy view: I really like look of the diagonal -- but I think that having more of the Calmer might make it feel too weighty. If you're looking to add substance to the top I'd go with the one on the right. Otherwise the straight version seems lighter and airier.

I prefer the one on the left, but I think the one on the right goes better with the rest of the design.

I like the one on the right because it goes with the innovative look you are trying to create better. I think the Calmer will help to stabilize that wide panel of lace better at an angle. What ever you do I know it will be fantastic! :)

I like both sketches--I agree with others that in working out the details of going from sketch to garment, you may be directed towards one or the other by the mechanics of the yarns and stitch patterns.
