introduction
How rude of me, to jump in and ask a question without introducing myself! My name is Joanna, and my blog is definitelyMaybe Knits. I'm in grad school for mechanical engineering, and I definitely approach knitting and designing from the perspective of an engineer rather than an artist. I love unique garment construction and I think that a good attention to detail can elevate a piece from ordinary to amazing. My goal is to design sweaters that are both wearable and interesting, which can be a challenge!
I'm excited about the CAL because while I have designed a few things in the past, I've been making things up as I go along. I feel comfortable designing for myself, but when it comes to writing and resizing patterns, I have a little trouble. I'm currently in the process of writing up the pattern for this tanktop, which is actually knit out of CE Premiere:
As I alluded to in my previous post, I plan on using Calmer to design another tanktop/shell. There are a lot of ideas bouncing around in my head, but I want to wait until I can play with the yarn before I commit to something. Now I just need to pick a color - I can't decide between a bright, cheery color (which I'd have more fun working with, but it would make the FO more casual) or a deep, more subtle color. I have some other projects to finish before I can start this one, though, so I have some time to decide.

I have an odd question. The seed stitch portion looks to be knit in the round. Don't you find that leaves an odd column of stitches where the round begins/ends? How did you hide it or incorporate it into the piece?
Joanna! It's so cool that you designed that camisole. I actually had it bookmarked and was planning to write to the blogger who designed it to ask if I could use it as an example of the amazing things that can be done with Premiere. I think it's beautiful, and it's so great that you found us. Of course we'll help with sizing. I'm sure everyone will have suggestions. Welcome aboard!
Hi, Joanna. Regarding colors: I always prefer to go with subtle, neutral colors. It may seem boring to some, but they go with everything, and (I think) are simply more wearable and versatile. I'm, like, the queen of black, but that's just me. Is there one color in particular you're thinking about? Navy, or deep purple, or a green? Charcoal gray? A dark red? There are so many options. I just think black is simple and attractive and it just... works. Then again, I'm kind of a minimalist.
p.s. Do you have, or have you read, Last Minute Knitted Gifts? Joelle Hoverson is brilliant with color, and there's a small chapter about color in that book that's really interesting. (I saw on your blog that you enjoyed the color theory article in knitty's winter surprise.) She talks about adding depth to colors - like using a couple of yarns for a project that are each a slightly different color to add some differentiation (subtle differentiation) to the color of the item. I tried to apply her theory in my "lovely hat" (you can see it on my blog a ways down), and I think it turned out well - I used a thick charcoal gray yarn with a thinner dark bluish-purple yarn, and the effect is cool. -Emily

Thank you for the compliments on the top - Julia, that's too funny! For the top section, I picked up an odd number of stitches from the cable band. When you work seed stitch in the round with an odd stitch count, you knit a continuous spiral of K1P1 - you don't have to change anything at the beginning of each round, and it eliminates the seam or jog automatically.
For my color choice, I've narrowed it down to Coral (the bright one) and Slosh (the subtle one - it's a dark blue). My wardrobe consists of a lot of bright colors, but almost all solids. I'm sure that I'd wear either of these colors, though probably in different situations... right now I'm leaning towards the Coral because I think the bright color will cheer me up through this Boston winter.
In that case, I'd recommend the Coral - go with what you want.
Are those darts on the side of the bust? or decreases? Very pretty.
