Sleeve Options

Ok soooo I bound off the top of my shirt and I'm already going to have to frog a few rows because I forgot to do the seed stitch edging at the top of the back edge and it rolls down a bit from being just stockinette. I tried this on and I think that it's basically just what I was going for. I like the seed stitch but I do wish that I had been able to get it to cling a little more under the bust. Also because of the increasing, the short rows would have been completely unnecessary and would have looked silly. I'm glad I frogged those.

Here are my sleeve sketches. Got cut off a bit by the scanner I see. Anyways I will reattach and do one of these three ideas. I like the ruffle because it coordinates with the ruffle I plan for the bottom edge, but I'm beginning to think I might not want the ruffle now. I might reattach and work a few more rows and then bind off. I don't really know about the cap sleeves... I just like cap sleeves but not for this top I don't think. My favorite is the drapey sleeve. It's loose and comfortable, and it's different. It looks more fitting to me just from the sketch. I think it would look cute off the shoulder as well, either way one wanted to wear it. I'm welcome to comments and suggestions even if it's something different. Or about the top in general. This isn't the first thing I've designed but it is the most complicated and I need all the help I can get!

I'm *really* liking this - shall be following your progress with great interest. It looks like a very wearable, comfortable top.

I think the drapey sleeves should work very well, probably even better than cap ones, I agree.

Wow that looks really great! When I pictured the barmaid top, I thought of all the off-the-shoulder-wench-tops I've worn and it looked like your drawing with the cap sleeves. I think those sleeves will really set off the top while allowing it to be worn off the shoulder if desired.

My problem with off-the-shoulder is that the sleeves cut into the arm or the whole thing slowly creeps down your body exposing a bit more then desired. ;)

Whatever sleeve you use will have to take those factors into consideration.

Well you've made beautiful progress on it. I guess the trade off for great drape is that you can't always get a nice snug fit. Even so, I think the effect is still exactly what you envisioned and that's what matters.
As for the sleeves, I have a top I like with a similar drapey and loose sleeve and I like it. It's a store bought shirt, but in terms of comfort and fit, it's nice. I also like the balance that the ruffle design has, though, despite my normal tenancies, I have to admit that I think I like the top sans ruffles. With all the extra fabric at the bust, I kind of think ruffles would be too much.

Personally, I'd use cap sleeves. I think they'd echo the bust and draw the eye out and up.

Your sweater is coming along just great. I love the color for spring. Can't wait to see the completed project!

Haha, cap sleeves it is then. I can always do a second version with the draped sleeves that is more fitted. I think also that I might cast on more stitches for the sleeves when I frog it back, because as ruinwen mentioned, it did pull a bit. And yes it might fall down a bit, but it's meant to have something under it so hopefully that won't matter much.

Oh and no ruffles, the more I look at the sketch, th more I think they don't belong!

Cute! I think I'd go with cap sleeves myself.

I have to agree with Marnie - I think I'd prefer the drapey & loose sleeves (but then again I'm the kind of person for which simpler is better).

I like your tattoo, by the way!

Thanks, there is actually a hummingbird up there above the vines and flowers. It needs touching up. :D
